  1. Yup. This is when they started putting the actors from the TV shows on the covers of the books. It did give it more of a realistic feel. As silly as the show was...

This is when the books got ludicrious too. Maybe just because the series had gone on so long. Sometimes there are just so many good ideas that you got to use the bad ones to continue the series. This book is clearly when the series went on too long and got desperate. The new kid in town Devon Whitelaw comes to Sweet Valley and he only has eyes for Liz. Liz has a boyfriend--Todd. But when has that ever stopped her? So she has a thing with Devon. Jess, who wanted Devon for herself is fuming and she runs to Todd to tell him the news. He can't believe it. Even though this is like the umpteeth time one of them has cheated on the other. Jessica suggests revenge and moving on (both good ideas).

But Todd tries to win Elizabeth back. Why? Well, I guess they are a match. This whole thing turns into a battle between Devon and Todd. And Elizabeth is so disgusted by all of it. She flees them. Todd tries to win her back. Todd begs "forgiveness" to Elizabeth. It's all so disgusting. One of the lowest points in the series.

    1. Yes, I must agree that when the series entered the mid to late 90s, it felt like they had run out of ideas. I often felt that the mini-series format of the later books stretched out the plots too thin, compromising the story.
